Black & Hue is an outstanding photography duo located in North Florida that creates breathtaking images of people celebrating their happiest moments. They came to me looking for a hand drawn, tattoo flash inspired design to compliment their incredible bespoke photography.
The drawing board
During our first conversation, the owners at B&H told me about their business, their likes and dislikes in terms of a logo, and a few possible directions they wanted to go in. They wanted to avoid any of the stereotypical photographer logo tropes, like camera lenses, and instead wanted to go in a completely unique direction. They were attracted to hand drawn aesthetics, traditional tattoo flash style graphics, and hand lettered logos. I came up with three directions based on our discovery and kick off meeting.
Hand & Rose
Initially, the client was eager to have their image represented in the logo as a simplified wood cut portrait. As a recognizable couple in the community, this made sense as a branding direction. After several rounds of edits and revisions, however, we agreed that the logo would perhaps be getting a little too intricate for smaller scale use cases. Ultimately, B&H chose the hand and rose logo, which is appropriate as a huge part of their business is photographing weddings. They have been using it since early 2020.
Building out the branding
While not part of the original scope, I have had fun exploring the brand and building out a few marketing materials based on the original logo design. Below are some of my thoughts on how the branding could evolve.
